Have you ever wanted to actually know how your friends are doing when they waste their time playing sports instead of studying? No? Well, you get to anyway!
Whew, what a month it has been for Osgoode Intramurals. These law students continue to show that they know how to do more than just read cases.
About a month ago we saw Osgoode unite in the annual slo-pitch tournament that happens right near Osgoode Chambers. After an easy first day, there seemed to be no one that could stop the Osgoode team in the “B” division. B stands for best, right? Going into Sunday, the boys and girls were sitting pretty after beating teams by as many as 20 runs.
Fellow 1L and Queen’s baseball alumni Vaughan Rawes was promising “dingers” to anyone who came out to watch the championship game on Sunday afternoon. In rather embarrassing fashion, he did not hit any home runs, but the team rallied around him and came out with a seemingly effortless win. The team will look to defend their championship next fall.
Osgoode’s two football teams look to keep with the winning ways as their schedule continues and the air gets colder. The early team, captained by Newfie Sam Dobbin, sits at 3-1 and looks poised to claim their first title in 25 years. While Dobbin can’t cover yours truly, he is proving to be one of our best defensive backs. The team also made a big mid-season acquisition in your very own Sports Editor, Nolan Cattell, who has already made an impact by helping guide them to three straight wins. We expect big things from this team moving forward. The late team has struggled out of the gate at 0-3-1 but this writer is confident they will be able to pull it together and turn it around with playoffs looming.
The Osgoode men’s hockey ‘A’ team has also come out of the gate with some strong performances so far. 1L Adam Donaldson, according to IMLeagues, has claimed MVP honours in every single game. With the boys continuing to gain chemistry, we can expect some silky passes and sweet celly’s coming as the boys gear up for the end of year tournament in Kingston.
Of course, this is just the tip of the iceberg as there are many sports offered and surely something for everyone! If you’re just reading this now, I encourage you to look into joining a league when registration opens again after Christmas!
