Wardobe inspiration from spring/summer 2023 street style

Now that we have a few weeks of fall behind us, we can really start preparing for our fall and winter wardrobes. I will be swapping out my spring/summer closet for my stored fall/winter items, and thrifting for any other pieces I’d like to wear. However you choose to organize your closet refresh, you will need some inspiration. Luckily, the spring 2023 runway season is coming to a close, and the best inspiration comes from streetwear looks. Classes? Law firm? JCR pub nights? You can incorporate some streetwear inspiration into every part of your law school life this fall and winter. And many of these trends can be incorporated into any style aesthetic or colour palette (looking at all you neutral lovers). Here are just a few trends from fashion month to get you thinking.

Pops of Colour

The streets of Paris, London, Milan, and New York have been overflowing with bright items of clothing this past month. Add some interest to your fall and winter looks by adding touches of bright colours to your outfits. You can make your complete outfit a single colour, do some colour blocking, or let the colour peek through an otherwise neutral outfit. Try a neutral or all-black outfit with some brightly coloured socks. You can also use other accessories like scarves, hats, and belts to add some colour to your look. Opt for a colourful scarf as a hair accessory or tie it on the belt loop of your pants. Or make an even bolder statement with an accessory like the green cowboy hat below!

Belts

Belts are a great way to elevate most outfits, and they can also be great statement accessories as well. From thick to thin, and leather to metal chains, there are so many different styles of belts and ways to wear them. Add funky belts to your jeans and trousers or put a belt over a dress or oversized shirt, hoodie, or blazer. Another recent street style trend: belt layering. Try adding two overlapping belts, or, if you have enough torso space, go crazy with a third belt.

Statement Coats

Personality and coat are practically synonymous at this point, and so many great street style outfits this month have been bursting with personality (read coats). Inject a bit of your personality into your fall/winter style by choosing a statement coat. A statement can really be any characteristic that takes your coat from drab to fab: colour, texture, shape, length, or details. Bright colours, like the red puffer above, are a great way to make a statement. Neutral-coloured coats can be statement-ified with cool textures, interesting belts or collars, or asymmetric shapes. Another idea: wear a simple coat in a

Bold Prints

Geometric, floral, animal, paisley, checkered, and striped prints have been very popular this past fashion month. You can mix and match and layer prints, or you can use the prints like the pops of colour, by letting them peak out from neutral outfits.

Utility

The workwear and utilitarian look have been a part of street style fashion for a while now, and there’s no better time to incorporate this trend than fall and winter. Cargo pants are a utility style staple, but you can also opt for bomber and fly jackets, work and lug boots, and khaki and army green. Large pockets and visible hardware like zippers and snaps are key details in this trend. You can incorporate the utility trend without going full-out utilitarian as well; opt for a belt bag or a bucket hat to complete a look.
