I See the Light

I

At daybreak, you find yourself searching for the light,

You see clouds, birds, trees, and grass, but no light,

As day passes to dusk, light’s husk is not to be seen,

Twilight approaches, and to your dismay, darkness is in the queue,

What would dark be without light? Dare not say fright!

In the darkest hour, the moon’s beams descend into the night,

Watching from afar, you stand as close to its source as seems right,

Glowing, bright, a majestic sight that shines on in your presence,

The moon now envelops the sun, its rays a radiating orange,

This feels new, rays and beams dance in the morning sky

You lie equidistant between the sun and the moon,

An ecstatic combination of blues, reds, and oranges abound,

The hues encircle one the other, flashing by with great speed,

Disintegrating in the air just as fast as they appeared,

And in their place develops an enormous cloud of white mist,

For a moment, you are left in empty space, light running apace,

Darkness surrounds your frame – how wonderful, you think to yourself,

The sun ascends and perches high up above the sky,

The moon pretends, drawing nearer as you smile and depart,

You almost forget that light has been there all along,

Imparting the full experience of delight to you in kind,

An open invitation that one would be a fool to decline,

You stretch your arms out once more, and see if light will accept,

It just might, you think, but you hesitate in fear of neglect,

The weight of truth keeps your arms extended while uncertainty abates,

Cannot this be what the sun and the moon were asking from you?

Eyes shut, lips quivering, arms shaking, fear turns into courage,

Your eyes open and your arms drop down to your side, resting,

A spark of light passes by, and your vision slightly expands,

The wandering spirit residing in you has alighted, you feel calm,

You wonder where to go next, the path ahead unlighted,

It then occurs to you that you have crossed the divide,

Guided towards its warmth and captured by its aura,

Shadowed, blighted, honored, ignited, sighted…

I see the light.
