As the end of Brat Summer approached, Charli XCX and Troye Sivan embarked on their co-headlining North American tour, “Sweat,”in support of their newest albums, Brat and Something to Give Each Other, respectively. The tour stopped in Toronto, Ontario at Scotiabank Arena on 18 September 2024.
The concert was opened by Shygirl, and, following a brief intermission, the co-headliners made their way to the stage. Sivan kicked off the performance with “Got Me Started”, “What’s the Time Where You Are?”, and “My My My!”, and Charli XCX followed up with “365” (remix), “360”, and “Von dutch”. The pair alternated their performances for the rest of the show. Sivan performed songs like “In My Room”, “Bloom”, “One Of Your Girls”, “STUD”, and “Rush”, while Charli XCX performed songs. including “Sympathy is a knife”, “Guess” (featuring Billie Eilish), “Girl, so confusing” (featuring Lorde), “Apple”, and “Speed Drive”. The pair also sang “1999” together, a song they collaborated on, and finished the night by performing “Talk talk”.
However, something I found disappointing about the concert was that the crowd was relatively quiet. Honestly, it was a lot quieter than I was expecting. For example, when Sivan performed “Rush”—one of his most well-known and well-loved songs—he had to ask the crowd to sing louder multiple times. I think this was probably due to the abundance of new Charli XCX and Troye Sivan fans at the concert given the recency of their new albums; maybe people didn’t know the lyrics to many of the songs, but the lack of noise and enthusiasm was disappointing nonetheless.
Overall, though, I really enjoyed my time at the concert. The performances from all involved were great, and it was just a fun time all around. I found the concert to be reminiscent of being in a club—the loud, thumping music, people getting way too close and personal with each other both on stage and in the crowd (Sivan’s “One Of Your Girls” performance was really something else), everyone sweating, and someone spilling their drink on me. I was also inadvertently covered in glitter spray by the people sitting next to me, but that’s never happened to me at a club before.
Brat Summer may be at an end, but “Sweat” made sure the heat stayed on full blast in Toronto.
