Joseph Aloysius Kennedy, Frank Dore, and Russell Smith began Obiter Dicta in January 1928. For over 90 years, we have been Osgoode’s student newspaper, and the oldest law school newspaper in North America. We publish news, opinions and upcoming events of interest to all members of the Osgoode community. We accept submissions for publication from Osgoode Students, Faculty, Staff, and Alumni.

EDITOR IN CHIEF - Omar El Sharkawy ('25)
Just another Chief of the Paper in a long line of students trying to figure out this third-year business, all whilst having it revealed that maybe the real law school experience was the Obiter articles we wrote along the way. I came up in Obiter working in Copy. A year of combing through articles for correct types of dashes all while writing on the side became a three-year obsession with publication and editorialism. My credentials: as a certified conversationalist & in delusions of thinking that archaic prose makes one a better writer. My creative writing is anything but concise, but my editorialist style is surgically obsessive with petty detail. When not helping in the uphill task of keeping traditional student journalism from its always awaiting obsequies (always a group activity), my attention is on other anachronistic activities like numismatics, old movies, old cars, old cameras, historical literature; you get the point. And yes: those same hobbies are the muse for a lot of my articles—avoid them at your own risk!
MANAGING EDITOR - Shreya Vohra ('25)
Shreya grew up in India and the Maldives before moving to Canada. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto in Peace and Conflict studies, International Relations, and Psychology. Shreya’s legal interests lie in immigration and refugee law, international law, and their intersections with criminal law. Outside of being a 3L student, she is also an oil painter, a poet, and a traveller.
Business/Online
DEPUTY BUSINESS MANAGERS - Ahnaf Razzak ('26) & Shreya Jadhav ('26)
Ahnaf Razzark (Deputy Business Manager) – My name is Ahnaf Razzak and I am one of the Co-Business Managers for Obiter Dicta. I am currently a 3rd year JD/MBA student with an interest in Securities and Corporate law. My role with the paper is to help facilitate its financial transactions and maintain bookkeeping records. I was previously with Obiter in my capacity as a Business Manager-in-Training and a Copy Editor during my 1L/2L years. Outside of law, I am a big fan of mystery and art-house movies, so I am always looking for recommendations (my personal favourite is The Grand Budapest Hotel). Another interest of mine is aviation – I recently started acquiring my recreational pilot permit. In fact, if I was not in law school, I think I would be trying to become a commercial pilot. I am keenly looking forward to a productive year with Obiter!
Shreya Jadhav (Deputy Business Manager) – My name is Shreya Jadhav and I am in 3L at Osgoode. I am one of the Business Managers for Obiter Dicta this year! I am interested in Business Law and Wills & Estates. I enjoy reading, and recently I’ve started to read books by Agatha Christie. One of my favourite books is The Little Book of Hygge by Meik Wiking. In my spare time I like to listen to music (almost all genres), play Stardew Valley, and hike at provincial parks.

ONLINE EDITOR - Maria Mateus ('25)
As the online editor for Obiter I get to combine my eye for detail with a love for fresh perspectives. My role involves uploading the creative content that reflects the diverse voices within our law school community. As an incorrigible procrastinator, I love my work for the Obiter because editing and uploading allows me to spend many an hour reading the creative pieces folks put out. I love it so much this is my third year as the online editor of Obiter!
Section Editors
NEWS - Sahar Fatima ('25)
Sahar is an avid writer and reader who enjoys learning through the lens of investigative journalism. When she is not penning a news article for Obiter Dicta, you can find Sahar exploring coffee shops across Toronto or scrapbooking her latest travel adventures.
OPINION - Stefan Georgiou ('25)
I am a 3L student with a passion for film, reading, and Magic: The Gathering. Aside from my hobbies, you can usually find me hanging out with my dog or on my couch, yelling at the Toronto Blue Jays through my TV.
ARTS & CULTURE - Anna Moschitto ('26)
Hi guys! I’m in 2L here at Osgoode, and graduated from the University of Toronto in 2023 where I wrote and edited pieces for the Film & TV section of The Varsity. I’ve been writing media reviews since high school, and spend most of my free time prowling Toronto’s independent theatre scene for new movies to watch. My taste is informed mostly by my education in sociology and criminology, so I love art that explores themes of justice and social stratification. Feel free to reach out if you have any movie recs for me 🙂
SPORTS - Mario Lutin Aguilar ('27)
Hi! I am a 1L, dedicated to bringing sports commentary to life. My role combines some of my favorite things: reading, writing, editing, sports, and drinking way too much black coffee—the more it tastes like a sharpie, the better. Outside school, I spend too much time managing a fantasy basketball team, because why not? No one can convince me that the Raptors’ chip wasn’t a fluke, this is still LebronTO. The most productive use of my time has to be carefully curating playlists—rap is my go-to—but Wrapped says I listened to 161 genres in 2023 (I’m that one friend that always has an airpod in). If you see me around, don’t be fooled by the hat, I’m lowkey a yapper.
ILLUSTRATOR - Manpreet Bharj ('25)
My name is Manpreet, and I’m an Illustrator for Obiter Dicta. I also make the fun crosswords that help students know what’s happening at Osgoode, as well as fun facts that never hurt to know! When I’m not doing law stuff, I love drawing for fun, reading, and planning my next adventure. I’m always reading something new, whether it’s fiction or non-fiction, and I have a keen interest in British literature. One of the next goals I want to accomplish is to travel to Antarctica and see penguins doing their thing, unbothered. I’ve been fascinated by them forever, and seeing them at the Toronto Zoo through a window wasn’t enough! I also have two cute little dogs who are smol and harmless. They’re always there to make me laugh and help me unwind after a busy day. I’m open to collaborating on anyone wants to create for Obiter and welcome everyone to reach out so we can set that up!

I’ve also published a few pieces for local papers in Kitchener-Waterloo. It’s so much fun to be on both sides of a paper, both as a writer and an editor. I really loved reading student’s hot takes at UW, so I’m thrilled to hear what’s on Osgoode’s mind! Feel free to reach out to me with any ideas: the funkier the opinion, the more I usually like it 🙂

She is a strong believer in the power of words, and finds storytelling and writing to be a unique from of sharing parts of our lives with one another, universally. When Kareena is not writing or studying, you can find her watching true crime mysteries or cooking.
DEPUTY ARTS & CULTURE EDITORS - Oshish Ungras ('27)
Hi there! By way of introduction, here are some answers to questions no one asked me that span various topics in arts and culture: my favourite song is Mariah Carey’s Fantasy, but anything by Burna Boy is serious competition (and maybe some UK rap). My guilty pleasure is the Twilight saga, but both teams are problematic. I just want Bella to be happy *sigh*. I believe reading bell hooks’ is the equivalent of drinking hot chocolate on a cold, snowy, evening by the fireplace—All About Love is a must read. I love big talk about topics in philosophy, international relations, and debating outcomes of scenarios inspired by almost unimaginable events. Finally, I am most looking forward to reading the Obiter and all your lovely submissions to the Arts & Culture section.
DEPUTY SPORTS EDITOR - Breanna Davidson-Ho ('27)
My name is Breanna Davidson-Ho I am a 2L at Osgoode. I’m a former NCAA gymnast and have been involved in gymnastics since age 2.
