While Green Day may not have particularly enjoyed September, this wonderful month offers so many exciting opportunities to get out of the library and enjoy various parts of Toronto’s art and entertainment scene. Whether you like comedy, music or visual art, this month is filled with events to keep you busy!

For those of you who want your funny bone tickled, “Just for Laughs 42” is coming back to Toronto on September 19th, with many iconic headliners, including John Mulaney and Gabriel Iglesias. The comedy festival has been a Canadian staple for years, and it runs for 11 days, primarily at the Sony Centre downtown. Tickets for a headliner are around $42.00. From 42 different acts to pick from, one is sure to make you laugh.

The Distillery District Sunday Market is also running for its last month of the year, ending on September 29th. Artisans from all over Ontario are featuring their speciality meats, treats and yummy eats. Entrance is free and the Market is open every Sunday from noon until 5 p.m.

On a more musical note, the Kensington Market Jazz Festival has performances scheduled from September 13-15, supporting the local community and many independent jazz artists. There are also several pop and mainstream artists performing this month at arenas all over the Greater Toronto Area, including The Who, J Balvin, Lizzo, and Daniel Caesar.

One of the biggest events of the city’s art world is the Toronto Biennial of Art, which starts on September 21st and runs for 72 days. The exposition occurs every two years, showcasing contemporary art and featuring local, national and international artists alike. While it may sound like a typical art festival, this one spans the lakeshore of Toronto, as well as other artistic institutions. It intelligently uses spaces all over the city, and one of the venues is the York University Art Gallery, located in the Accolade East building on campus. Further differentiating it, the Biennial holds talks, performances and workshops on a wide variety of topics. The best part of all? It’s free and accessible for all!

While summer may seem like it is ending, September still has some warmth and can still offer ways to enjoy the city before fall officially starts. Whether you enjoy outdoor art showcases, stand-up comedy or delicious food stands, this month is sure to create some amazing memories and experiences.
