It’s been a great year for the Muslim Law Students’ Association (MLSA) so far! Our biggest achievement? Finally getting a pull-out banner. It’s huge, you will definitely see it around if you haven’t already.
In all seriousness, we have had a lot of fun hosting a wide variety of events this fall, and are grateful for the support and response we have been receiving from students, fellow clubs, and sponsors. We helped prepare students for OCIs, welcomed prospective applicants and 1Ls to the school, talked about what it’s like to be racialized students and lawyers, and shared the love, food, and laughter during Islamic Heritage Month… but it’s not over yet!
We’ll be slowing things down in the new year to focus on building connections and remembering to reflect upon who we are and what we have.
We want to continue to encourage interfaith dialogue—with a twist, of course, so expect something like speed-dating with deeper Q&A. If you are part of a club that might be interested in collaborating with us on this event, please reach out!
Later on in the semester, we will be commemorating the one-year anniversary of the New Zealand mosque shooting, remembering the victims, and hearing from community leaders and figures to spark much-needed discussions about Islamophobia, and our roles in this climate as law students and future lawyers.
We will round things out with our biggest and brightest event, the end-of-year dinner! While eating some great food, we will review what we have been able to accomplish this year and listen to Muslim lawyers speak about their experience in the legal profession and what we can anticipate.
