Dear Class of 2022,
On behalf of the Osgoode Women’s Network (OWN) Executive Committee, we would like to extend our congratulations on beginning your legal career here at Osgoode! Osgoode noted potential in each of you and has hand-selected you to join our ranks, believing you could bring something unique to the classrooms and halls! Keep this in mind as you attend classes and begin to delve into the world of law. Remain optimistic, learn from other people’s experiences, but never doubt yourself and your reason for being here at Osgoode.
Your next three years will provide you with some of the most incredible experiences and opportunities – seize these! Our time at Osgoode and the experiences the school has facilitated have had significant impacts on both our personal and professional growth.
Since 2009, OWN has strived to offer membership with a community of strong women. It is our sincerest hope that OWN will be a supportive place for you to meet other like-minded individuals. As the largest student group at Osgoode, our network knows no bounds! Take advantage of it. Each and every one of us has been in your shoes at one point in time, and we are in the best position to help you through the good and bad times of 1L.
OWN has a jam-packed schedule of events and opportunities planned for you this year. Some of these include:
· Our mentorship program, which matches 1L students with upper-year students to allow for sharing of tips and tricks on how to conquer law school!
· Our career-building events, including our resume and mock interview sessions, our 1L recruit and job-search workshops, and our “Women in Law” career panel.
· Our biggest annual event, “OWN Your Career,” which, to keep it simple, is an epic night of networking at a downtown venue and hosts many women lawyers in various areas of legal practice.
We look forward to seeing you at our events, speaking with you personally, and being a resource for you while you navigate your path, whether it be in law or not.
