Welcome Message from the Satire Editor

W

Hi, my name is Emmanuel and I’m the Satire Section Editor. Welcome to Osgoode. Sure, there may be better news publications out there, but we’ve outlived them all (our Editor-in-Chief is very happy to point out we are the longest lived law school newspaper in North America, despite our best efforts). This year’s team of writers and shit-disturbers will be responsible for bringing some cheer and levity to this otherwise soul-crushing experience — and, on slow weeks, stir some trouble for News and Opinion to report on.

Great satire is a joke with a purpose. In the days of old, the jester was the only person speaking their mind in the king’s court. Sounds cliche, I know. But I can say from experience that writing for Satire is still the best way to avoid a libel suit when you know you’re going to piss people off. We will keep this school honest, call out hypocrisy in the profession, and, every once in a while, give people the chance to take a break from stressing out over their papers and have a chuckle.

If you’re interested in giving back to the Osgoode community this year (i.e. padding your resume) joining Satire is the most fun you can have “giving a voice to student concern”.  Interested in joining the Satire team?  Email me at satire@obiter-dicta.ca to get involved.  I look forward to working and learning with you all.
